Just in case you're wondering -- and feeling cheated because you live in the wealthiest country in the world and still don't have health insurance -- this PBS documentary explains how other capitalist democracies (they're not the same thing, W) manage to extend healthcare to every citizen. Imagine being able to change jobs anytime you want without worrying about your health insurance.

It's a public television version of "Sicko."
Stay healthy.

The Boy Scouts vs. God
I heard the news today about the horrible tornado that struck the Boy Scouts camping in western Iowa. I'm saddened by the deaths and injuries. I'm also glad no gays or atheists were affected since the Scouts don't allow either to join their organization.
It doesn't take much to imagine what the televangelists and the Christian Industry would be crowing about if the tornado had struck a gay pride march or festival instead. Sunday's sermons would trumpet how a vengeful lord punishes the sinners -- just like John McCain's boy Pastor Hagee claimed Katrina struck New Orleans for the same reason.
Will this force the financial supporters (sheep) of these religious fanatics to question their relentless anti-gay dogma?

Happy Gay Marriage Day!
Unfortunately my husband (to be, for real now) was working that night, but one week ago today the landmark ruling came down. All gay folks in California had wedding bells ringing in their hearts that day. I still hear the ringing.
The official celebrating last Thursday night was just down the street from our house. I could hear the loud music and roar of the crowd from here. I should have walked down to Boy's Town and joined in the reveling, but it didn't seem right to do it without my man.
For the upcoming ballot measure fight, I know we all have to pitch in $ and help the cause. This is going to be a huge fight and we gay folks have to pull out all the stops. Don't let the wing-nuts overturn this.
Speaking of fools, one of my co-workers had to get thrown out of my office once when she declared that it's not right for gay people to get married. What can I say to her to change her mind or convince her to skip voting this year?
