Assemble

We trekked to Burbank this morning for a screening of "Avengers." Pretty awesome. Seeing heroes punch each other and beat up the bad guys is always fun. Assemble at theaters on Friday.

The Missing Box Shot

Here's the missing shot from my previous post. Nothing says "Christmas" like opening a gift from your mother and finding it packed in a Mole Killer poison box. Ha. I love this. No actual poison was enclosed, just an awesome bear ornament for our bear-themed Christmas tree. This is a holiday memory I'll cherish.

Happy Holidays 2008

Although Norio has to work off and on today we did manage to have a nice, festive morning opening gifts, listening to Christmas music and breakfasting on homemade cinnamon-apple oatmeal. Yum.

This bottle of wine came from a vendor we use at work. I can't wait to pop the Poppy!

This was the box my mother sent her gift inside. Should I be worried? We don't have moles.

This panettone goes on sale at Gelson's every holiday season, and it's absolutely yummy. I sent boxes of it back home to some family members who said they liked it as well.

Norio donned two of his gifts, a golden jacket from American Apparel and a red throw that he decided would make a nice scarf.

This was our "before" picture of the tree.

The Man In The Mirror

Remember this one? An oldie here from the 1980s. We were getting ready for big changes even then. I wonder, if MJ made this video today, would he include the Marriage Equality movement in his imagery of social justice? Would he use all the "God Hates Fags" signs from Westboro Baptist Church in there somewhere? My guess is that he wouldn't. Since it was 87 then, he could have incorporated images of the enormous and photogenic AIDS quilt and ACT-UP's nonviolent demos. And no images of Harvey Milk? Just a theory, but I think Michael left us out on purpose. Still, this is very moving and I remember seeing it played in The Midnight Sun many times back then.

Thanks to Self Lothario for the link and the good memory: Michael (another one)

Peace out.

My Thanksgiving Turkey

No rivers or woods involved, but we did go over the hill and through the Valley to our friends' house for the holiday yesterday. Since my cooking skills are as far off as my youth, I packed a turkey cake from a Cuban bakery. (Do they celebrate Thanksgiving in Cuba?)

Richard Dawkins Insights

From the Richard Dawkins Foundation Web site.

I'm still looking for events in London in February to celebrate the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin. Anyone know what's going on?
